5 Ways to Upcycle Glass Jars

5 Ways to Upcycle Glass Jars

Some of our Sun & Swell Pantry items are sold in glass jars - like coconut oil, date syrup and almond butter. And you may be stocking up on glass jars from salsa, soups, pickles, or jams! Although these glass jars can be easily recycled, what is even better is upcycling these jars by reusing them for other purposes. Not only does this get more use out of that one jar, which makes them less resource and energy intensive, reusing them will also avoid the need to buy other items that would be a source of other virgin resource extraction. It’s a win-win!

Here's 5 easy ideas for upcycling glass jars:

1. New set of drinking cups!

Clean the jars out, peel off the label and you have a new set of glass drinking jars. We love drinking out of mason jars and they’re great for smoothies and to bring on the go. Now instead of buying mason jars new, you can just reuse old glass jars! We found Meyer's Candles provide great drinking glasses!

2. Toothpaste holder

This one is easy and adds a fun aesthetic to your bathroom. You can also put sand or sea glass at the bottom for extra festivity!

3. Vase for flowers

We love the look of flowers or greens coming out of a glass jar. We found that dried lavender is a great way to keep a room smelling fresh. Also you can make an herb garden for your kitchen!

5. Holiday Cookie in a Jar

Looking for a holiday gift idea? Save 3 or 4 of your Sun & Swell jars and then clean them out and peel off the label (or leave it on!). Fill them with all the dry ingredients to make a festive cookie recipe and wrap with twine for a great low waste, thoughtful Holiday or housewarming gift. Here is one of our favorite cookie recipes for inspiration!
