How to Prep Fava Beans

While delicious, fava beans can be difficult to prepare making most people shy away from using them in recipes. This simple step-by-step guide will help you crack the fava bean puzzle!


  1. Remove the beans from the pod by pulling the string that runs along the seam of the pod, then pulling open pod with fingers.
  2. Blanch the fava beans:  boil salted water, drop fava beans in for 30 seconds, remove and place immediately in ice water.  
  3. After blanched, remove skin from each of the individual beans by peeling off with your fingers.  
  4. Your prepped fava beans are now ready for use in your favorite recipe!
